Golf
Carvoeiro is a great location for golfers.
There are two superb par 72 18 hole golf courses in Carvoeiro, Quinta de Gramacho and Vale de Pinta. There is also a 9 hole course on the Vale de Milho estate.
Other championship courses are at Penina and Palmares, and Vilamoura, both 30 minutes drive, Quinto do Largo and Vale do Lobo 40 minutes drive.

Marine Centre & Theme Park
For something a bit different then a visit to Zoomarine may ideal. It is a mixture between a marine centre and theme park, but definitely has enough activities to last you through the day. Absolutely great for kids.
The dolphins are the biggest attraction; they give three shows a day set in the large dolphin arena. The show is great fun to watch, and lasts around half an hour.
Sea lions and seals are also big attractions, likewise giving three shows a day in their respective compounds. You can also walk underground to see how they behave below the surface of the water.
There is a large aquarium with a surprising variety of sea creatures, the highlight being sand tiger sharks, which grow up to about 7ft long. Here you can also stroke stingrays, baby sharks, turtles and other creatures in the visitor interaction area.

Take a Boat Trip
to admire the coastline and grottos.
You can board a small fisherman's boat at Carvoeiro or Benagil Beach, or go to Portimão where there is a wider choice of vessels.
Starting from Portimão you first pass Paraiso Beach then on to Carvoeiro, Algar Seco, and Vale de Covo.

Fabrica do Ingles
This old cork factory, 12km from Carvoeiro, now houses a number of restaurants and a museum showing various stages of the cork industry in Portugal.
During the summer there is a water/light show in the evenings and occasionally concerts and exhibitions.

Parque Municipal
Parque Municipal do Sítio das Fontes (Site of Fountains) 12 km from Carvoeiro, is a popular picnic area for locals. A millers house and an old water-wheel still exist. You'll also find an amphi-theatre along with a playground and picnic tables.

Silves Castle
Despite its age and several earthquakes Silves castle remains substantially intact and is well worth a visit. You can walk all round the rampart and enjoy spectacular views of Silves and the mountains behind. Excavations at the castle are still being carried out.

Fatacil Fair
in Lagoa on the main road, EN125, 5km from Carvoeiro. Held annually for 10 days in August.

 

Tennis
Carvoeiro Tennis Club is a tennis centre with a multi-sport complex offering many activities from beginners level to advanced for young and old.
The centre is located in Sesmarias, a small village 3km from Carvoeiro overlooking the sea. The complex is open all year round and has 12 courts which can be rented by the hour and a double sided practice wall.

Diving
Tivoli Almansor Dive Center diving school situated in Vale do Covo, central Algarve, is the base providing dives for all levels of expertise.
Certified PADI instructors offer courses from Discover Scuba all the way up to Instructor Development.
Learn how to dive with enriched air (Nitrox) at one of the few Portuguese dive centres offering Nitrox dives.

Horseback Riding
Quinta da Gill Riding Centre is a farm on the plateau above Praia da Marina and offers excellent riding terrain through orange groves with miles of quiet tracks and small, safe rural roads.
The elevated position of the plateau gives excellent costal views to the south, vistas of the Monchique Mountains in the distant north and the town of Lagoa to the west.
Riding is a major feature of Portuguese, and particularly Algarvian, life.
At the Quinta Riding Centre you can just relax and hack out on a number of scenic trails or spend time polishing up your technique.
In addition to the hacks, lessons are available for all abilities from novice to advanced in the outdoor school.
If you prefer to jump, there is a large outdoor arena with a wide choice of jumps for lessons and practice.

Big Game Fishing
Depart from Portimão around 9am, sail for an hour or so to reach the fishing grounds 18km from the coast and then prepare the fishing gear.
Marlin, swordfish, bill fish, tuna, bonitos, blue fish, bass, giant conger sea bream and different kind of sharks - blue, mako, hammer-heads, and copper sharks are all roaming the waters.
The best time of year for fishing is June-September when the water is warmest.

Children's Activities
If you have children, KrazyWorld is well worth a visit. You will find mini golf, swimming pool, an animal petting farm, quad bikes, pony rides, a crocodile park and other attractions - all in beautifully landscaped surroundings. The park is 25km from Carvoeiro.

Water Parks
Slide&Splash in Lagoa, the water park that calls itself "the best in Europe", is a day out suitable for all members of the family.

Aqualand, is in central Algarve, near the town of Alcantarilha (Armação de Pera), 15km from Albufeira.
The park has water attractions for all tastes, some totally unique in the country, such as the Banzai, which give moments of pure adrenaline, joy, fun, adventure and relaxation.

Jeep Safari
There are many jeep safaris in this area of the Algarve. Zebra Safaris seem to be the most popular judging by the number of their distinctive jeeps buzzing around the resorts.
